Getting Unstuck

Have you ever felt stuck?

One time I was stuck in a traffic jam. I started to pray – to get rid of the thought of being stuck and the frustration of trying to get somewhere. I put that all out so I could hear what God, Good, was saying. Thoughts came – like that I was right where I needed to be. That if I looked past the snarled traffic jam, I could see that right where I was was really God’s space – filled with God’s goodness. It came to me that I was right where I needed to be right at that time. And that I would get where I needed to be when I needed to. AND that there was no reason I couldn’t find the road open up so I could easily get to where I was going.

But then another thought came – I wasn’t the only one trying to get somewhere. I suddenly had this mental vision of each person and each vehicle being under the direction of God, Good. Good wasn’t working just to get me unstuck or to get just one person to their destination. But Good’s job is to work it out so that everyone gets to their destination.

I don’t remember how long it took me to get to where I was going. But time became less important to me once I realized that God’s goodness was with us all, directing us. And that Good isn’t finished until everyone on the road gets to their destination.

There are bigger things in life that sometimes make us feel stuck. And it might feel harder to get unstuck from them. But the remedy is the same: look past the stuck spot and enjoy seeing God’s goodness all around. And that will get you out!
